Protection of the environment and social responsibility are the indispensable basis of worldwide tourism. For the 30th time, the German Travel Association (DRV) invites applications for the EcoTrophea, the international prize for environmental protection and social responsibity awarded annually by the DRV (www.ecotrophea.de). Numerous stakeholders in the tourism industry have been supporting a sustainable development in holiday countries for years. To call attention to the variety of ideas, the DRV has honoured, for three decades, initiatives that engage in a sustainable development in the travel industry making an effective contribution to this effect. “With our innovative projects and initiatives we want to show how both tour operators and travellers can contribute towards a sustainable development in holiday countries”, says Prof. Dr. Harald Zeiss, Chairman of the DRV Committee on Sustainability. Applications to participate in the DRV contest should take account of ecological and social interests and help promote sustainable travel offers among as many guests as possible. By submitting their entries for the EcoTrophea 2016, applicants are invited to demonstrate their commitment and present their contributions to an ecological and socially responsible tourism to the broad public. Entries for the EcoTrophea can refer to individual travel offers, holiday destinations, services or projects placing particular emphasis on the promotion of sustainable tourism.

This year's laureates will be honoured at the 66th DRV Annual Convention which will take place in Kusadasi (Turkey) from October 27 to 29.
With this contest, the tourism industry is demonstrating its creative potential for environmentally and socially responsible travel, stimulating at the same time new ideas and projects.
Background information: The international EcoTrophea award was launched by the German Travel Association (DRV) as early as 1987. The initiatives honoured by the leading German association of the tourism industry aim at protecting the environment, saving resources, reducing environmental pollution and promoting awareness among tour operators and customers for ecological and socially responsible behaviour.
